Zambia’s Telecoms Sector: A Pillar of Progress, Says PwC Report
A new report from PwC Zambia paints a bright picture of the country’s telecommunications sector, highlighting its crucial role as a driver of economic growth and social inclusion. The inaugural PwC Zambia Telecommunications Report 2025 showcases a thriving industry fueled by technological advancements and strong government support.
The report celebrates a period of significant transformation, noting that the sector has expanded rapidly, in part due to the increased demand for digital services during the COVID-19 pandemic. According to the analysis, this growth has been actively encouraged by the government’s commitment to ICT as a tool for national development.
Key Highlights from the Report:
Government-Led Initiatives: The report credits the establishment of the Ministry of Technology and Science and the Smart Zambia Institute for spearheading major investments in ICT infrastructure. These include new data centers, a local computer assembly plant, and specialized ICT training centers, all of which are expanding the nation’s digital capabilities.
Improved Affordability and Access: Thanks to the expansion of broadband access and better connectivity to international submarine cables, Zambians are now benefiting from more affordable fixed-line and mobile services. This improved access, combined with the wider availability of smart devices, is making digital services more accessible to everyone.
A Growing and Robust Sector: The findings are based on extensive collaboration with the country’s three largest mobile network operators—Airtel Networks, MTN Zambia, and Zamtel—as well as key government bodies.
This broad engagement confirms a resilient and growing industry that is not only enabling communication but also acting as a powerful engine for economic activity through mobile financial services.
The PwC report serves as a testament to Zambia’s forward momentum in the digital space, offering a positive outlook for policymakers, investors, and consumers alike.
