KITWE VOCATIONAL TRAINING CENTRE VISIT – 6th September
Minister of Technology and Science Honorable Felix Chipota Mutati MP, visited the Kitwe Vocational Training Centre (KVTC) to recognize the institution’s contributions to vocational training and skills development.
In his remarks, Hon. Mutati emphasized the importance of the journey initiated by President Hakainde Hichilema, which aims for Zambia to produce 3 million tonnes of copper. The goal for this year is to achieve 1 million tonnes, and various factors must come into play to reach this target. He highlighted that providing students with the skills to operate mining equipment is a critical component of this mission.
Hon. Mutati urged the students to remain attentive during their lessons, noting that 250 students have been selected from across Zambia without any form of discrimination to learn how to operate heavy-duty equipment. He stressed that the only payment the government requires is for them to succeed and deliver results.
Additionally, he acknowledged the support from the government of Japan, which has invested $4 million to provide simulators as part of the training program. This investment will serve as a valuable starting point for the students at KVTC.
