INAUGURATION OF THE NEW AUTOMOTIVE AND HEAVY EQUIPMENT WORKSHOP AND CLOSING CEREMONY OF THE TRAINING OF TRAINERS(TOT) SCALLING UP PROGRAMME-5th September 2025
The Minister of Technology and Science, Hon. Felix Chipota Mutati MP, officially launched the Automotive and Heavy Equipment Engineering Workshops at NORTEC in Ndola, Copper belt and closed the Scaling Up the Trainer of Trainers (
)Programme. These initiatives, under the ZAMITA project, represent a significant step in enhancing Zambia’s technical and vocational training system.
Since 2016, the ZAMITA project has trained over 1,100 students, procured state-of-the-art training equipment, and significantly increased female participation in technical fields. Nearly half of the graduates are already employed or have been placed in internships, with strong endorsements from industry stakeholders.
While challenges remain in infrastructure and funding, the new facilities worth USD 435,295.88 represent a turning point in addressing these gaps. This initiative demonstrates the government’s commitment to producing market-ready graduates and advancing Zambia’s industrialisation, in line with the 8th National Development Plan.
The Minister commended trainers and graduates, urging them to transfer knowledge nationwide, thereby raising the standard of technical education and creating opportunities for decent work and entrepreneurship.
