11 July, 2024
Chieftainess Waitwika of the Namwanga people of Nakonde District has thanked political parties taking part in the Luchinde and Mulalo Local Government by-elections for conducting peaceful campaigns.
Chieftainess Waitwika says the campaigns in the two wards in her chiefdom are going on peaceful as political parties canvass for votes in various villages.
Speaking when Technology and Science Minister Felix Mutati paid a courtesy call on her at her Palace in Waitwika Village, Chieftainess Waitwika said she hopes that voting will also go on peacefully tomorrow.
She said violence has no place in society as people in Nakonde live as one family.
Chieftainess Waitwika also thanked government for embarking on the constructing of her Palace.
She said the decision by government to construct Palaces countrywide has made traditional leaders happy.
Meanwhile, there were smiles and jubilation as the ruling UPND campaign team and opposition Patriotic Front campaign teams met at Kasongwa Village while campaigning.
Technology and Science Minister Felix Mutati, who was leading the UPND campaign team, hugged and shook hands with Nakonde Member of Parliament Luka Simumba who was leading the PF campaign team.
Mr. Mutati said the atmosphere in Nakonde shows that politics is a competition of ideas and not violence.
Mr. Mutati said government wants to see the conducive environment prevailing in Nakonde to continue.
And Mr. Simumba says the reason why peace is prevailing in the two ward by-elections is because the PF recognises President Hakainde Hichilema and has no problem in campaigning alongside other parties.
Mr. Simumba says Nakonde is well known for peace and campaigns will continue being peaceful until voting tomorrow.
