Technology and Science Minister Hon. Felix Mutati has disclosed that the Artificial Intelligence Strategy which government is preparing will be launched on Independence Day this year.
Mr. Mutati says the launch of the AI strategy will signify the rebirth of Zambia at 60 years and show that the nation’s economy will now be powered by Artificial Intelligence going forward.
Speaking at the Corporate Governance Conference and Gala Awards in Livingstone organised by the Institute of Directors, Mr. Mutati said government is working with the Tony Blair Institute and the Finnish Government to come up with the Artificial Intelligence Strategy.
“Artificial Intelligence has come to promote productivity and efficiency. It has not come to get your jobs, it has come to enhance your work,” said Mr. Mutati.
Meanwhile, Mr. Mutati has disclosed that government is working on a Start Up Bill to promote entrepreneurship.
Mr. Mutati says the Start Up Bill will seek to create a Venture Capital Fund to support start ups in the country.
And Institute of Directors President Edward Kabwe thanked government for approving the Institute of Directors Bill.
Mr. Kabwe said the approval of the bill shows the importance government attaches to the promotion of corporate governance in the country.
He said tabling the bill in Parliament will allow the country see improvements in the way boards work.
Mr. Kabwe disclosed that the institute is working with the public sector to share skills in corporate governance.
He said the institute is working on a Memorandum of Understanding with the Industrial Development Corporation to promote good corporate governance in the private sector.
Meanwhile, the Institute of Directors has conferred Hon. Mutati with Honourary Membership of the Institute for his exemplary corporate leadership.
