Technology and Science Minister Hon. Felix Mutati has launched the Bio Gas Char Briquettes project for Lunga District in Luapula Province at the ongoing 58th Zambia International Trade Fair here in Ndola on the Copperbelt.
With funding from the National Science and Technology Council (NSTC), the University of Zambia through it’s Technical Development and Advisory Unit (TDAU) was able to come up with equipment which is now producing briquettes which are providing sustainable energy to communities.
Already, the Ministry of Green Economy and Environment has ordered 60 of these char briquette machines which will be given out to deserving citizens.
During the launch, Mr. Mutati asked NSTC to find ways of mass producing the machines so that as many citizens as possible have access to this machines to reduce charcoal burning in the country.
He said the production of briquettes is one way the current energy crisis can be beaten which has been necessitated by effects of climate change
