The ongoing GSMA Africa Policy Leaders Forum in Kigali discussed topical issues that encompassed handset-device affordability, bridging the digital divide, and enhancing investments driven by an informed and research-based policy says Technology and Science Minister Felix Mutati.
Deliberating insightful keynotes through a stimulating panel discussion forum Mr Mutati stressed on the need to develop a well informed research – based policy in order to define and resolve the real existence of problems in the digital space.
“Unless we have policies that are driven by research and are well informed, we cannot create solutions that will not have tractions”. He said.
Minister Mutati informed the forum that, at country level, Zambia has provided incentives to the digital infrastructure space growth and currently recording an increased coverage to almost 90 percent.
He believed the African continent has knowledge to create potent solutions to bridge the digital divide hence the need to have a well articulated packaged policy that will implement viable key undertakings and create an impact in the pursuing the digital transformation agenda.
The GSMA Africa Policy Leaders Forum convened key stakeholders from ministries, regulatory bodies and the broader mobile ecosystem across the region.
