The Governments of Zambia and Rwanda signed a memorandum of understanding formalizing a significant partnership under-celebrated fruitful cooperation ties between the countries says Technology and Science Minister Felix Mutati.
Signing an MoU with his counterpart Honourable Paula Ingabire Minister of ICT in Rwanda, Kigali, Mr Mutati expressed gratitude that the signed MoU attests to the ministry’s already embarked on and remarkable key interventions arising to strong collaborations on adopted digital systems development that will enhance the Zambia Revenue Authority Electronic Value Added Tax project.
Mr. Mutati disclosed that the project is poised to enhance tax compliance by implementing an innovative tax administrative intervention system through exploration and use of the power of technology with a focus on transforming the platform into an effective and precise Authority operational model.
Elaborating on the electronic tax invoicing technology system the Minister said the already effected system will enable the authority (ZRA) to operate on real-time access – business transaction digital bus platform, as a result, register a significant step ahead in modernizing a tax administration operative system.
Minister Mutati explained that electronic invoicing is bringing a new effective approach to prevent the use of fake invoices in Value Added Tax refund claims and providing guarantees to entities that qualify for claim deductions.
He said the benefits of the system are immense hence securing transactions through a curb of fraudulent practices to streamlined tax-related processes.
Appreciating the collaborative outcomes Minister Mutati observed that initial subtle commencement is now bearing cooperation fruits to the realization of the project.
Mr Mutati believed the project is a prime example of the impactful outcomes of joint efforts and potential cooperation as demonstrated between the two nations and also serving as an inspiration for more collaborative projects in the future.
“The signed MoU importantly advances towards formalizing and expanding collaboration and fostering cooperation in various essential areas, including digital transformation, innovation, emerging technologies, cybersecurity, data sharing, skills development, and capacity building”.
He said Minister said the partnership will serve as the foundation for a multitude of projects that will drive both economies of the two nations forward.
In closing, Mr Mutati said the MoU will remain a symbol of shared values and objectives that must inspire initiatives further on continued partnership for prosperity and progress to the people of Zambia and Rwanda.
